Service Fees & Charges - How We Get Paid

Business Energy

All the commercial energy providers on our panel pay Watt.co.uk in a straightforward manner for introducing our consumers to their gas and/or electricity and related services.

Never will we ask you, the customer, to pay our commission; we always get it straight from the provider. Our service, which covers securing the most competitive tariffs, price comparison, sales support, switch management, processing, customer service, and account administration, is paid for by the commission we earn. In order to maintain good customer outcomes and our position in the market and to be able to continue offering clients competitive offers for their business, Watt.co.uk earns a commission that balances the cost of delivering these services. By agreeing to use our service, you are agreeing for Watt.co.uk to receive commission from suppliers for this service as follows.

  • The commission is included within your unit cost of energy usage by way of a small uplift (i.e., within the cost of the energy contract you agree with your chosen supplier).
  • This uplift is determined by Watt.co.uk. Whilst it can differ across contracts, our commission is generally just a few percent of the cost of the total energy contract and typically under 1.5 pence of the unit rate.
  • Because our commissions are based on estimated future usage, they are forecast amounts. As an example, we may secure an electricity unit rate of 30 pence per KwH (kilowatt hour) from a supplier, to which we may apply an uplift of 0.8 pence, per KwH so the price presented and contracted would be 30.8 pence per KwH. The calculation for our commission is therefore our uplift multiplied by your total energy consumption (in KwH), over the contract term. For this example, it is around 2.5% of the total retail price.
  • The payment terms and period over which the commission is actually paid varies by supplier therefore these commissions may also be subject to amendments over time by suppliers.

For some suppliers who install new meters, they may choose instead to pay a fixed commission per contract.

If you would like to find out the remuneration we expect to receive from your contract, please email hello@watt.co.uk.

Some suppliers may make additional discretionary marketing and other volume-based payments to us for growth over a given period, however, these payments do not impact the impartiality of the comparison service provided.

The Customer agrees to indemnify WATT for any Commission payments repaid to the Supplier in the scenario where the Customer cancels a Contract after a Commission payment has been paid and the Supplier clawbacks the Commission payment from WATT.
It is important to note that the Commission payment shall never undermine the Services provided or influence the manner in which WATT deal with a Customer. The Customer’s interests will always remain paramount.

Business Water

For referring customers to our Water partners’ services, we are paid a commission by them. This would be included in the price of the water contract you commit to with Watt.co.uk by way of a minor uplift applied to usage over the course of the contract that is included in the cost of your water retail service fee. You are not obligated to pay Watt.co.uk directly in any way. To continue offering clients attractive offers for their business, this commission strikes a compromise between the cost of service, including quoting, sales support, and switch management, giving outstanding customer outcomes, and maintaining our status within the market. You consent to Watt.co.uk receiving this payment for our services by using our service.

How Do We Get Paid?

As a result of using the Services the Customer acknowledges and agrees that WATT UTILITIES LTD may receive a Referral Fee or Commission payment directly from the Supplier should a customer enter into a energy Contract procured via us and this goes live. The Commission payment will be paid by the Supplier and will be calculated by applying a nominal fee to the Supplier’s base costs. This commission pays for our service, including comparison, switch management, customer service and account management. The commission earned by Watt balances the cost to provide these services, in line with providing good customer outcomes and retaining our standing within the market in order to continue to provide customers competitive deals for their business. By agreeing to use our service, you are agreeing for Watt.co.uk to receive a commission for our service.

The Commission payment may vary dependent upon the Supplier and the type of Contract entered into. The commission is included within your unit cost of energy usage by way of a small uplift; therefore, the cost of Watt Utilities Service is included within the cost of the energy contract you agree with your chosen supplier. You are not required to make any direct payment to Watt Utilities Ltd.

As an example, we may secure an electricity unit rate of 15.5 pence per KwH (kilowatt hour) to which we may apply an uplift of 0.7 pence, so the contracted price would be 16.2 pence per KwH. The calculation for our commission is generally just a few percent of the cost of the total energy contract and typically under 1.5 pence of the unit rate.

Due to the way we are remunerated, we only offer business energy prices from the suppliers who are live on our panel. Because our commissions are based on future usage, they are forecast amounts. If you would like to find out the commission, we expect to receive from your contract please email contact@watt.co.uk.

Some suppliers may take additional payments to us, e.g., a normal payment per meter sold successfully to that supplier; however, these payments do not impact the impartiality of the comparison service provided.

The Commission payment may be paid to WATT in full and/or in instalments from the date when the Customer enters a Contract with a Supplier.
